At 18, I came home with tears streaming down my face, terrified that telling the truth about being gay might cost me the unconditional love I’d known my entire life.

At 42, I wish I could go back, wrap my arms around that girl, and show her the life she was about to build. ❤️

I didn’t get to come out on my own terms.

I’m an only child. My mom was my whole world. The thought that she might love me differently terrified me.

But she didn’t.

She told me that who I loved would never change how much she loved me.

I know how fortunate I was.

But I still wondered: Would my very large family accept me? Would I ever legally marry? Would life always be harder because I was considered “different”?

I couldn’t have imagined what was waiting for me.

15 years with the love of my life. Ten married. A beautiful life in our favorite city. Dreams chased, businesses built, and incredible people beside us.

What’s actually a little crazy thinking about it? How beautifully ordinary our life together is.

We get to be wives and choose each other every day.

Things my 18-year-old self wasn’t even sure would be possible.

I wouldn’t trade a single piece of this life.

If I could tell that younger me anything:

That road less traveled you’re so afraid of?

You’re going to walk it better because you had the audacity to walk it every single day.

You’ll find your people. Marry the most incredible woman. Build a life that’s yours in every way.

Being unapologetically yourself won’t hold you back. It will become one of your greatest strengths.

To anyone denied that unconditional love: I wish I could wrap you in what my mom gave me that night.

You are not harder to love because of who you love.

You deserve the big, beautiful love story. The ordinary Tuesday mornings. A home where you can exhale. People who celebrate you, not just tolerate you.

Come out on your own terms, when it’s safe.

At 18, I feared being gay might make my life smaller.

At 42, it’s made my life so much bigger than I ever imagined!

Happy National Coming Out Day. 🌈❤️

There’s so much love waiting for you. You deserve every bit of it.

This is for the person who has a ton of different interests and tabs open in their brain.

When you come back to a topic or idea, it can feel like you’re starting from scratch because your thoughts are scattered across screenshots and notes.

I’ve been using Milanote as a visual “thinking space” to keep useful screenshots and my own thoughts together, so I can pick up where I left off

(and avoid cluttering my camera roll and notes app with things that get lost)

Not sponsored but would love to collab :) @milanoteapp
